Cape Town police have identified the woman behind a suspected double-murder suicide on a train line in Eerste River.

Nyarai Chiwandire and her two young children, 18-month-old Rosemary and six-day-old Allan were killed when they were struck by the train on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson November Filander says the children's father came forward on Thursday to identify them.

“They are from Zimbabwe. At this stage, we’ve opened an inquest docket to establish the circumstances around the deaths.”
