Many adrenaline junkies from the northern suburbs converged on the V&A Waterfront on Saturday to witness the largest extreme sport festival held in South Africa.
Ultimate X, which was presented by Absa Life Xtreme, did in fact, draw people from all over the country.
The sweltering hot day was jam-packed with “ooohs”, “aaahs” and “wows” as daredevils defied gravity with their motorbikes, BMXes, skateboards and wakeboards.
Both local and international competitors including Nick de Wit, Greg Illingworth, Moses Adams, Alastair Sayer, Dallan Goldman, Colin and Stuart Louden, Dlamini Dlamini, Justus Kotze, Devon Nassif and Nick Burton-Moore thrilled the 5 000-strong crowd.
Death-defying stunts of absurdity were followed that evening by an “extreme concert” at Zula Lounge in Long Street with top local DJs and bands playing long into the night.
This was the third annual Ultimate X event and judging by the reaction of the spectators the next one cannot come soon enough.
