Two people were killed and four others injured in a single vehicle accident on the N1 near Giel Basson Drive in Goodwood on Friday.

ER24 spokesman Andre Visser said a Volkswagen Golf GTI veered out of control at 21:00 on Friday night and collided with a street lamp.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that five of the six occupants had been ejected from the vehicle upon impact,” he said.

Two of the occupants, one man and one woman, sustained various fatal injuries. Both were later declared dead at the scene, he added.

One man was trapped in the car with steel pinning his left leg down and had to be cut free from the wreckage, said Visser.

He was taken to the Tygerberg Hospital.

The remaining three people were taken to various hospitals in the area.
